Wheathampstead Neighbourhood Watch

Useful ideas  www.youtube.com/hertspolice.
DISTRACTION BURGLARIES.

This type of crime is where criminals call at your home posing as officials or asking for your help with something. They make up a story to try to get into your home. They generally try to target elderly people with the intention of stealing from them.

IF YOU ARE NOT SURE - DON'T OPEN THE DOOR!
If you are not expecting a caller, you do not have to open the door to ANYONE. If it is important, they will return.

CHECK THE ID OF ANYONE WHO CALLS, EVEN IF THEY HAVE AN APPOINTMENT WITH YOU.
Many utility companies will provide you with a security password when the appointment is booked.

DO NOT KEEP LARGE AMOUNTS OF CASH AT HOME.

BOGUS TRADERS

NEVER feel under pressure by traders who are convincing you that work needs to be carried out on your home.

Talk to relatives and friends about work that you think may need doing on you house. They will help you find a reputable trader.

Do not agree to sign ANYTHING or agree to have work carried out on the spot.
Ask a friend or relative to be with you when you make the decision

If you suspect anyone who calls at your door call 999
