"INEZ Cottage" Lower Luton Road, Wheathampstead

Initially called the Red House this cottage was built in 1790 by the owners of Wheathampstead House for the nurse of the estate.  It was later renamed by the Earl of Cavan, in memory of his wife Inez, for a nursing charity - District Nursing Association.  Inez was of Spanish origins.

Since 1960 it has been a private residence.

" I found the Inez Cottage story most interesting; I remember when it was the home of Sally Smith, the District nurse who served the village so diligently for many, many years." - Laurie Seymour  (The Baker's Boy).
